Egg On My Face...

Ok, so the whole -- do a give away drawing as a way of saying thanks to all the wonderful folks who have read and commented on my blog sounded like a good idea. So why the egg on my face? Well -- I've been lax about reading my email this weekend -- when I got to it this morning some of the comments were puzzling me. I mean, a drawing is no guarantee that I will be sending anything right? Welllllllll...I guess I should have read my post more carefully before I hit that publish button. See, there was supposed to be a whole sentence in there about "I will put your name into a hat and have my capable assistant draw a name on Monday" that didn't make it into the published version.

Crud.

Double Crud.

And now for my quandary. I could be all technical and say that the paragraph following the offer in the original post implies that not EVERYONE would get a pincushion (the whole -- if you want a guarantee go to my PIF post thing -- which, btw, has been filled, thanks!). That feels an awful lot like cheating to me. I'm the one who didn't edit (something I tell my students to do) and so it's my fault. Then again -- there is the other side of the coin. I did not make nearly enough pincushions to send to everyone who commented -- and I don't think I can afford the postage for all of them either (they aren't heavy -- just bulky, which means the postage goes up).

So -- what to do? I'm considering Hari-Kari -- though somehow that seems a bit extreme. I considered going into hiding -- but, well, how do you hide from yourself? Ok, enough self-flagellation.

Immediate fix is that I will hold the drawing I intended to hold today (dd is looking forward to it so, really, you don't want to disappoint the toddler do you? She's really cute). Given how well she did the last time, I can say there will probably be more than one winner.

For those of you who commented and are not ok with this "fix" -- shoot me an email. (this is especially true for those of you who are "no-reply" on your comments, I would have done this via email but, well, I can't really) I'll work something out. I have more fabric. I can make more pincushions -- but, um, they aren't going to be ready for a while. My list of Christmas projects has to take priority -- so I won't be able to get to them for sure until January. Sorry folks, this is the best I can do for right now -- hope you understand. Now I'm going to go see if I have anything resembling a hair shirt hanging in my closet.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Poor you, what a dilemna. I am sure though that quilt bloggers being as nice as you mentioned, understood everything right from the first time round! I missed the dead-line (stupid me!) so you won´t hear anything nasty from me!
The pin-cushions are so lovely that I can undestand that ALL of them want to win them though! I hope you can find a solution to please everybody (included yourself). Take care.

I'm sure it will be OK. I assumed there would be a drawing, so I bet many others did too. Do you have instructions for pincushions? You could send a bit of fabric and the pattern in a regular envelope if anyone feels like they are missing out.

Not to worry...I took your post as if you were doing a draw. I wouldn't expect to get a pincushion without my name drawn.

I hope you work it out...it's just a typo. It happens all the time to me.

Oh dear, I missed your original post, a little behind on blog reading,,oops... but I'm sure that anyone who emailed you will understand that you don't have a direct hook-up to the Reserve bank and that one draw is what you intended. Hope it all works out for you.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Go ahead and do a drawing with the comments you do have. There's always next time, or another blog that's giving away goodies. :)

It's the reader's (like me!) fault for not slowing down and realizing that there was a drawing. :)

Well, I too thought it was for a drawing and nothing more...not to worry...I bet everyone else thought the same thing. Happy Monday with a (HUG)

Oh of course, put me in for the drawing! I thought it was awfully ambitious (ok, crazy!) of you to make a pincushion for everyone who commented! I sure don't feel like you OWE me one!

I thought that you were going to be overwhelmed, lol! But a drawing for one is much more reasonable than making 31!! Please keep me in the hat for the drawing!

Well, I thought it was a drawing all along (see, great minds think alike). Still hope I win though!

We'll love you anyway :) Just draw the one name!

I did not read your post thinking you were going to send all commenters a pincushion!!! Don't sweat it for one more second!

I thought it was a drawing. I mean only crazy people would be offering pin cushions to zillions. Right?
Don't sweat it.

Oh gosh! You made a mistake. What would you tell your daughter? When you make a mistake, even if it is very big or embarrassing, you just say you're sorry, make ammends and don't make the same mistake again. You made ammends by apologizing, writing a note and offering to make good on your offer. Besides, it's not like you would ACTUALLY run into any of us in the LQS! LOL! Chalk it up to experience and move on! I can't even imagine one blogger saying anything but that!

I thought you were doing a drawing all along. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this sort of thing.

I assumed a drawing would be held. I think the majority of us figured that would be the case. They are gorgeous pincushions, and whoever gets them will love them.

Don't worry. I was of the impression there would be a drawing. You can't give one to everyone - goodness you could end up making hundreds of them.

Oh my goodness! I understood what you meant, because I didn't think everyone was going to get a pincushion! Shows you how well I really read something, doesn't it? I think we all still love you, so put the hair shirt and the cat o'nine tails away, ya hear?
